Hale Iolani

Hale Iolani is close to the airport (about 15 minutes) and Kailua-Kona town (also about 15 minutes), yet feels very remote. Located on a 6 acre parcel in the rainforest at the 2700′ elevation.

Hale Iolani (Home of the Heavenly Hawk) features a bedroom equipped with the essentials of glamping (glamour camping), including a queen sized bed and two twin beds. The bedroom is a very spacious canvas wall-tent constructed on top of a raised deck. Entry to the bedroom is through a sliding-glass door from the dining room/kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a gas cooktop and refrigerator. A bathroom features a toilet and sink and is detached from the charming shower and bath tub which are open aired and private, paved underfoot with lava rock floor with the sun and stars and native ohia trees above.

The elevation provides for cool nights during the winter months, sometimes it drops into the 40’s during the night. There is an electric space heater in the cabin. Typically, summer night temperatures are in the 50’s or 60’s. Daytime winter temperatures are usually in the 70’s, summer daytime temperatures are low 80’s.

We have a dog, Hoku, and a cat, Lucy. They are both very friendly. Lucy comes and goes as she pleases. Hoku has an enclosure where she lives when Lynn and Kurt are gone.

Above the beaches and bustle of Kona town, Kaloko Mauka provides a cool rainforest escape from the Hawaiian heat. Just 15 minutes to the beaches or the town of Kailua Kona. Hualalai mountain provides fascinating plant diversity, from giant tree ferns to the majestic Ohia trees, as well as exceptional examples of a landscape created by lava. Hale ‘Iolani is a hand-built product of love for the land. Preservation, stewardship, and conservation are the owners fundamental goals for this forest reserve which they have spent years dreaming of, and years creating.

There are several hiking trails in the Kaloko area, within minutes of Hale Iolani.
